Aitmatov
1979 The world-famous Soviet writer Chingiz Aitmatov completes the novel “And the Day Lasts Longer than a Century,” the publication of which is under threat due to censorship. During a trip to Europe, the opportunity opens up for him to stay forever in the West, where freedom of creativity, world recognition and life without restrictions await him. But this chance forces Aitmatov to relive his own past: the loss of his father, a difficult childhood, first love, family and the path that made him the voice of an entire people. Reflecting on the image of a “mankurt” - a person who has lost his memory - he understands that true freedom is impossible without memory, roots and responsibility to his people. Aitmatov faces a choice that will determine not only his fate, but also the fate of the work, which has become a symbol of national memory and human dignity.
