TheatreHD: The Marriage of Balzaminov

On November 6, the Oktyabr Cinema Center invites you to the premiere screening of the film version of the play “The Marriage of Balzaminov” at the Moscow Sovremennik Theater. Before the show begins, guests will be immersed in the festive atmosphere of the wedding celebration. Spectators will be treated to a red carpet, a themed photo zone, a welcome drink and a vibrant theatrical performance. A festive, formal dress code is recommended. The program includes: • 18:00–19:00 – gathering of guests and red carpet; • 19:00–19:20 — presentation of the IV season of the “Theater in Cinema” project and the film version of the play “Balzaminov’s Marriage”; • 19.20–21.25 — screening of the film version; • 21.30–22.30 — public talk with the creators and actors of the play. Director Sergei Gazarov suggests looking at Balzaminov not as an infantile eccentric, but as a Russian Don Quixote - a dreamer, philosopher and romantic who refuses to put up with the limitations of real life and creates his own universe. Behind the funny situations and bizarre fantasies of the hero, serious themes are revealed: the desire for freedom, the dream of love, the desire to be recognized and the ability of a person to independently create his own happiness. The film version allows you to transfer the energy of the performance to the big screen. The camera gets closer to the characters, capturing the nuances of the acting, the details of the set design and the atmosphere of the production. In this case, theatrical convention becomes part of a special visual language connecting theater and cinema. For all its modern intonation, the production retains the main thing - the sparkling humor and comedic nature of Ostrovsky's dramaturgy. The bright set design of the artist Evgenia Shutina, the expressive costumes of Maria Borovskaya, the star cast, as well as Ostrovsky’s signature comedy turn “Balzaminov’s Marriage” into a real cinematic celebration.
