Goya's shadows

Screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere embarks on his final journey. His path lies in Spain, the subject of his research is the artist Francisco Goya, whom he always admired and to whom he dedicated his film “Ghosts of Goya” together with Milos Forman. Photographs of Spain, paintings and prints by Goya are interspersed with personal memories of the surrealist Luis Buñuel, with whom Carrière worked extensively, and reflections on the eternal themes of art. Goya’s deafness, war, emigration, the madness of this world, in which the “little man” is easily lost - all this appears in the artist’s work in visible images and makes him our contemporary. As the French writer Andre Malraux said, Goya is the last of the classics and the first of the modernists. The film is directed by José Luis López-Linares and screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere, whose credits include the films “Beauty of the Day,” “That Obscure Object of Desire,” “Valmont” and “Van Gogh. On the threshold of eternity.”, visit places significant for Goya and immerse themselves in his work in order to invite us to look into the world of genius.
